Welcome to the Too Smart To Start Communities Page!

The Too Smart To Start initiative recognizes the importance of working with communities on the local level to promote underage alcohol use prevention messages that will influence the attitudes and behaviors of 9- to 13-year-olds, their parents, and the broader community.

Twelve communities nationwide have implemented a local version of the Too Smart To Start initiative. The communities are Cincinnati, OH; Miami, FL; Knoxville, TN; Nashville, TN (contains two community sites); New Castle County, DE; Newaygo County, MN; Noble County, IN; Pittsburgh, PA; Portland, OR; San Antonio, TX; and Scott County, MS.

In each community, a team has been assembled consisting of a site coordinator from the lead agency, a parent group representative, a youth group representative, and a local coalition representative. Profiles of each community's lead agency and its team's Too Smart To Start initiative are included here.
